A shed or storage building in poor condition doesn't mean it needs to be demolished. In most cases, a professional repair costs 40% to 70% less than a full replacement.

At Cabanon-Remise A9, we specialize exclusively in the repair, restoration and refurbishment of sheds, storage buildings and garden sheds. Roof, doors, foundations, siding, structure - we repair everything, regardless of the material.

Our shed repair and storage building services

All types of repairs for your shed or storage building, regardless of the material or extent of damage

Shed Roof Repair

Your shed roof is the most exposed element to Quebec's climate. Heavy snow, freeze-thaw cycles, wind and rain cause significant damage over the seasons. Wind-torn shingles, water infiltration, ice dam formation, accumulated moss and debris - we repair all shed roofing problems.

Our services include partial or complete shingle replacement, waterproof membrane repair, replacement of rotted plywood under shingles and slope correction for better drainage. Asphalt shingles, metal roofing, elastomeric membrane, cedar shingles - we work with all materials.

Warning signs: water stains inside the shed, curled or missing shingles, excessive moss, visible roof sagging after a snowy winter.

Shed Door and Window Replacement

Shed doors and windows endure Quebec's extreme climate: intense cold in winter, humidity in summer, frequent use. Doors that won't close, broken or foggy windows, frames rotted by moisture, rusty hinges - we repair and replace everything.

We install single, double and sliding doors suited to your shed. Our experts adjust frames warped by frost, replace hinges, install weather stripping and ensure a tight seal. A properly closing door protects your shed from the elements, animals and theft.

Warning signs: door that rubs or sticks, drafts, foggy windows, door frame rotted or warped by freeze-thaw cycles.

Shed Foundation Repair and Levelling

A shed that leans or sinks has a foundation problem. In Quebec, repetitive freeze-thaw cycles heave and shift surface foundations every year, causing progressive settling. This is one of our most common shed repairs.

Our experts lift, level and stabilize your shed. Depending on your situation, we repair or replace the foundation: treated wood frame on gravel bed, precast concrete blocks, helical piles or concrete slab. Each type has its advantages depending on your terrain and budget.

Warning signs: shed leaning to one side, doors that won't close, gap between walls and floor, foundation wood blackened or soft to the touch.

Shed repair - floor, siding and structure replacement

Shed Floor Repair

The floor is one of the most vulnerable parts of a shed, especially when it sits directly on the ground or on a poorly drained foundation. Ground moisture, insects and freeze-thaw cycles cause wood rot, weakened joists and dangerous soft spots.

We replace rotted floor sections, reinforce weakened joists, install moisture treatments and fix drainage problems at the source. A solid floor means a safe shed that lasts for decades.

Warning signs: soft or spongy spots underfoot, creaking boards, musty odor, blackened or crumbling wood, presence of mushrooms or mold.

Shed Exterior Siding Repair

The exterior siding protects your shed's structure from the elements. When damaged, water seeps in and deterioration accelerates rapidly. We repair and replace vinyl, wood, aluminum and canexel siding.

Boards cracked by frost, sections rotted by moisture, damaged corners, peeling paint, open joints - our experts restore the appearance and weatherproofing of your shed. We also add a vapor barrier as needed to protect against moisture.

Warning signs: warped or cracked boards, peeling paint, water stains on interior walls, open joints between boards.

Shed Structural Reinforcement

Over time, a shed's structure can weaken: leaning walls, framing weakened by moisture, joints giving way under the weight of snow. Structural damage compromises the safety and durability of your storage building.

Our experts reinforce walls, floors, framing and joints. We treat rot and moisture at the source, add structural reinforcements and correct deformations. We also install access ramps, shelving, ventilation and exterior painting.

Warning signs: walls spreading apart, nails popping out, excessive creaking, visible deformation of the structure.

Which type of shed foundation to choose?

Each foundation type has its advantages. Our shed repair experts will advise you on the best option for your terrain and budget.

Treated Wood on Gravel Bed

The most common method for prefabricated sheds in Quebec. A treated wood frame (4x4 or 4x6) is placed on a bed of 0-3/4" crushed stone compacted to at least 10 cm thick, on a geotextile membrane.

Advantages: Most economical option, quick installation, gravel ensures good drainage and reduces rot risk.

Disadvantages: Vulnerable to frost heaving (foundation doesn't go below the frost line), the shed can shift with freeze-thaw cycles. Lifespan of 15 to 25 years.

Ideal for: Small prefabricated sheds, light storage buildings, tight budgets.

Precast Concrete Blocks (Deck Blocks)

Precast concrete blocks (sold at RONA, BMR, Home Depot) are placed at regular intervals on a compacted gravel bed. Each block has a notch to receive the shed's support beams.

Advantages: Easy to install, wood doesn't touch the ground (less rot), good ventilation under the shed, economical, blocks can be repositioned for re-levelling.

Disadvantages: Vulnerable to freeze-thaw (blocks shift with the seasons), especially on clay soils common in Montreal, Laval and on the South Shore. Re-levelling needed every few years.

Ideal for: Medium-sized sheds, well-drained lots, good value for money.

Helical Piles

Galvanized steel piles with a helix are mechanically screwed into the ground below the frost line (1.5 m in southern Quebec). This method has become the industry standard in Quebec for permanent shed foundations.

Advantages: Resistant to freeze-thaw (below frost line), installed in a few hours by a professional, no drying time, installable in any season even winter, suited to all soil types, lifespan of 75 to 100 years.

Disadvantages: Requires a specialized installer with hydraulic equipment, higher cost than surface options (approximately $200 to $260 per pile).

Ideal for: Sheds of all sizes, sloped lots, clay soils, permanent projects. The best long-term option.

Concrete Slab

A concrete slab poured on a compacted gravel bed provides a perfectly flat and solid surface. The floating slab (without footing) is most common for sheds, but is sensitive to frost. A slab with footing below the frost line is more stable but much more expensive.

Advantages: Perfectly flat surface, can serve directly as flooring, very durable, no moisture problems from the ground.

Disadvantages: Most expensive option ($3,000 to $5,000+ for a 10x12 shed), requires good weather to pour concrete, a floating slab can crack and shift with frost, difficult to modify.

Ideal for: Permanent storage buildings, garden garages, workshops, heavy equipment storage.
